Jen and Sim Benson are experienced, award-winning outdoor adventure writers and photographers with many years’ experience working within the outdoor industry. As parents to two children, they are passionate advocates of an active outdoor life, fostering a deep connection with the natural world and a sustainable, low-impact approach to outdoor adventure. In 2015 they spent a year camping in Britain with their two children, while today they regularly spend extended periods of time in the Alps. Sim is a UK Athletics qualified running coach. He has a degree in environmental earth science and has travelled extensively, including to Iceland, the Himalayas and across Europe, both with the British Exploring Society and on self-devised expeditions. Having held management positions with two outdoor retailers, he has many years’ experience and a high level of expertise in long-distance walking and running, mountain biking, rock climbing and mountaineering, endurance sport, camping, equipment maintenance, navigation and wilderness skills. Jen has a research background with a master’s degree in sport & exercise medicine. She is currently studying for a part-time PhD in philosophy and physical activity. She is an experienced long-distance runner with many years of participation in outdoor adventure and endurance sport including ultrarunning, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and open water swimming. She is proficient in French and is currently studying to improve further at the Institut Francais.
