Edible perennial plants offer many benefits. Once well-established, they provide a beautiful, low-maintenance garden backdrop and their deep roots make them hardy in times of drought. Perennials are more resilient against pests and diseases than more conventional annual crops and flourish from eco-friendly ‘no dig’ cultivation methods. Many also provide a reliable harvest, often throughout the year, and are important plants for pollinators.
Written by Agroforestry and gardening experts, Martin Crawford and Fran Welch, Perennial provides a comprehensive overview of how to make the most of these valuable crops. Beautifully illustrated with colour photos throughout, the guide includes an introduction to processing nuts and uncommon fruits, making ferments and pickles, and methods to produce a variety of drinks, including juice, kombucha tea, shrubs and liqueurs. It also features more than 80 flavourful recipes to showcase the best ways to put your newfound skills to use, from hearty meals and desserts to healthy snacks.
