This is a pocket-friendly field guide to 320 species of birds found across the British Isles, including all regular occurring species, from familiar year-round breeding species to winter and summer migrants and most scarcer birds.

Each bird is described with concise identification text, and accompanied by a distribution map of the British Isles. The photography is mainly by Rebecca Nason, one of Britain's leading wildlife photographers, with each image chosen to illuminate key identification points.

Unique selling points include bulleted, numbered identification criteria on the photographs, which is absolutely crucial for beginners and which immediately sets this book part from all rival works. And in a noteworthy switch from all other photographic guides, equal prominence is given for sexually dimorphic species to male and female birds.

The book is backed by the RSPB and we expect strong support from them. It is conceived as a photographic sister guide to the RSPB Pocket Guide, which is publishing in July 2022.

  • About the Author

Rebecca Nason is a naturalist, ecologist, birder, tour-leader and wildlife photographer. Originally from Cambridge, Rebecca's birding career really took off in 2003 when she was Assistant Warden on Fair Isle, Shetland, where she fell in love with the place, the people, the birds and the incredible photographic opportunities.

Rebecca spent the next decade visiting Fair Isle and Shetland as often as she could, and started leading wildlife tours in 2005, when she also became a freelance photographer. Her images have since appeared in dozens of books and periodicals.

Rebecca now lives in Lerwick, Shetland, and continues to lead tours in Shetland and around the world. She is a judge for the prestigious Bird Photographer of the Year and WildArt Photographer of the Year competitions.
