New research shows that unmarried and childfree women are statistically the happiest demographic in society, and 1 in 5 adults today are choosing to be childfree. In the UK, 30% of households were listed as single in 2022 and over half of Brits today aged 25-44 are not in a relationship. So, given this backdrop, why does being single and childfree (whether through choice or circumstance) still come with such stigma attached and a misguided assumption of being �less than�? Spinsterhood Reimagined is an investigation of sorts, based on Lucy�s hypothesis that posits the following: being a �spinster� is an equally valid life path as any other, equal in the good bits and equal in the bad. Using findings from research and interviews with a diverse range of women, this book will investigate both sides of the story � the side that is marriage and babies, and the side that is spinsterhood. The investigation will delve into the findings from conversations with a plethora of women including those who are married, those who have children and, of course, those who are both single and childfree, but with an emphasis on the lives of spinsters.

Each chapter dives into a different theme, including finance, travel, joy and fulfilment, sex, career, money, autonomy and home. Lucy will compare and contrast each theme through her conversations with women, as well as using broader research into what it means to be a spinster, both now and throughout history.
