What’s so special about Dutch paintings of cheese? When does Art Nouveau become Art Deco? Why were the Pre-Raphaelites obsessed with gingers? Who thought it was a good idea to put a big dead shark on display?

In just ten sentences, answering 10 questions, Verity Babbs will give you an overview of 50 artistic movements, who was behind them and their impact, all without give your brain a stitch. From the High Renaissance to Young British Artists (YBAs), this illustrated book is for anyone who wants to learn more about art but doesn’t know where to begin.

It won’t answer everything, nor will you be a genius by the end of it, but you will feel a little less lost next time you’re in a gallery or museum and may become more helpful on your pub quiz team.
