After Suzy Hopkins's husband of 30 years unexpectedly left her to pursue an old flame, the grief and disorientation she felt was so overwhelming that she thought her own heart might stop from the pain of it all. How do you take the first step forward after losing such an integral part of your life? How could they do this? And is it normal to feel so alone?

In WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU GET DUMPED, the mother-daughter duo of Hopkins and her New Yorker-illustrator extraordinaire daughter Hallie Bateman offer an incisive, tender, funny, appealingly illustrated 4-color guide to navigating the complex feeling of getting dumped. Using a countdown to 'unbreaking' your own heart, Hopkins and Bateman walk straight through the arduous process and into the realization'sometimes in a single moment'that your life is yours alone, and that it's painted with fresh colors.

From emotional breakup action points'making a personal to-do list, deliberately seeking comfort, owning your own desire'to delightfully funny illustrated sub-guides like 'The Dumpee Bill of Rights,' the Store of Discount Men, and playlists of songs to avoid (and those to blast on full volume), WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU GET DUMPED is at once deeply impactful and lightheartedly approachable, providing the wisdom to emerge from a breakup smarter, stronger, and with the unshakeable knowledge that you are worthy of lasting love.
