As soon as Bex Band announced she was pregnant with her first child, the sympathy began. 'Enjoy your adventures while you can', 'It's going to be a big shock not being able to travel and get out as much', 'Aren't you going to miss adventuring?' It seemed as though having children was like a death sentence when you're an outdoor adventurer.

But it really doesn't have to be that way. Yes it's a scary prospect ' how do you keep them safe? Where do they sleep? What extra equipment do you need? It's understandably mind boggling. But it's totally doable. Enter Family Adventures - the book Bex wishes she had when she was pregnant or navigating life as a parent' a parent who also happens to enjoy getting outdoors and going on adventures and doesn't want to stop doing the things they enjoy.

At just a few weeks old, Bex and her husband took their daughter camping. Now age 2, she's been wild camping in Dartmoor, cycling along the coast, swimming in rural lakes and even carried in a backpack on a multi-day Negev desert hike. Bex has taken her niece (age 8) and nephew (age 5) bivvying in ancient woods, kayaking down hidden waterways and taught them how to build shelters and light fires.

Family Adventures is a practical and inspirational guide on how to involve babies and children in outdoor adventures. Stories and experiences from adventuring families will round out the text and provide a plethora of shared tips and insights so that you're well equipped to make your family adventuring dreams a reality. Whether you're a cyclist, camper, walker, paddler, hiker, rafter, swimmer or love your van or narrowboat holidays, this book will show you just how to keep doing those things you love with your growing family of little ones.
